Blackberry chat blues are over

FINALLY!!!! I have a chat software that rocks on my blackberry.  I wasted $50 on IM+, which was a total disaster. Worked fine during the 7 day trial, but died on me only a few days after I had paid for the darned thing.  The interface also sucked royally. And then last night, i stumbled upon Jive Talk by Bee Jive.  Even though I could try it free for 30 days (60 days actually since I’ve also got a blackberry from Ufone now, which I’m still testing), I have decided not to wait, and paid them the $30.  I could have saved $10, but since I could end up using the Ufone blackberry more, and could need to transfer my key to the second device.Jive Talk has the slickest multi-connection and multi-protocol chat interface I’ve seen for a blackberry, and it works flawlessly.  I’m not just impressed, but relieved.  For whatever reason, all my business contacts still use AIM as the primary chat medium, and the link for downloading AIM to blackberry has been broken for the longest time.  With Jive Talk, I’m even more connected than ever before…. didn’t think it was possible, eh? ;-)

  2. Aaah… You have got to see this: http://www.nimbuzz.com/home

    You can add
    - AIM
    - Skype
    - MSN
    - Google Talk
    - Yahoo
    - Jabber

EXTRA: it will let you call anyone (yes on their mobile number) as if you are calling a local number in Pakistan.

Another very popular service is Fring (all the usual IM services + true mobile VOIP calls all through GPRS/EDGE) but i think that’s not available for BlackBerry.

  3. I personally would not suggest Nimbuzz as:

    - it slows down your BB
    - has very difficult menus
    - you would exit the application everytime u press “Back” key

    and a lot more…

I use Google Talk, Yahoo from blackberry. The best replacement for Skype is iSkoot (http://www.iskoot.com/)

The MSN Messenger and AOL links on blackberry website are broken as they are network specific and none of the networks in Pakistan have bought the rights to allow their users to get them yet. I was hopeful that ufone would introduce them but no news yet :(

Some of the forums suggest that you can use AIM by downloading custom Service Books, but I haven’t tried that as yet.

JiveTalk probably is the best replacement for an all in one solution but I really like the simplicity and UI of the blackberry provided messengers than any other 3rd party solution.
