Pic-a-Day Cheating

Professionally taken - FQ

I’m cheating here a bit. This is not today’s picture, and it’s not a self-portrait. It was taken over the weekend. 2008_01_27

Crying

This is another song on my “prozac” playlist. This song has never failed to make me stop doing whatever I may be doing, to close my eyes, and get lost in the words. Roy Orbison has been singing this since the 50’s, but it’s a timeless song.

Media Player - Quintessential

Frankly I’m not a great fan of Microsoft’s media player.  I find it quite clumsy and unfriendly, and can never get it to do what I want.  Winamp was great for a while, but now just doesn’t work for me.  I’m totally hooked to itunes, with mediamonkey in second place.  But for those who don’t want to use itunes or mediamonkey, there’s new hope.  Quintessential Media Player (akaQCD).  QCD is a lightweight but very capable music and video player. I found it to load much faster and it also did not slow down with my 17000+ songs media library, which is guaranteed to choke down Winamp to near death.  So, if you’re looking for a lightweight media player, or just want to try a new way to enjoy your music, try QCD.

Facebook Invitations…. Are Horrible

No. I’m *NOT* interested in “What Greek god are you?” or “Which swear word are you?“. I also don’t need to know if “Are You CrazySexy or CrazyCool?“, and I already know about “Are YOU sexy?“.

Facebook is probably the best social networking application so far, and the numbers prove it too. But I also think that it’s a bit pushy in the way they push out invitations for applications.  I also wish users were a bit more conservative when sending out those invitations.  Facebook has been very careless with not providing an “ignore all selected” option.  So, one has to click ignore or accept on each and every application, one by one.

Yesterday my pending invitation count read a disgusting 527.  There was no way I was going to click “ignore” that many times, and wait for the whole ajax thing to update that many times.  So, when I saw the “ignore all” service/application/bookmark introduced I was jumping with joy.  A quick drag into my toolbar, visit to FB’s invitations page, and click….. BOOOOOM.  I’m ecstatic.

Highly recommended.

Ave Maria

This piece has countless renditions, but this is one of my favorites.  Admittedly, the ever so gorgeous Sarah Brightman’s face helps ;-)

Jitna hum nai ro liya hai

I’m not much of a fan of Qawwalis, bu this one is part of a few of my playlists. I’m not too sure if this piece, just like most of Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan’s popular work, even qualifies as qawwali. Either way, it’s a lovely piece.
