Blackberry chat blues are over

FINALLY!!!! I have a chat software that rocks on my blackberry.  I wasted $50 on IM+, which was a total disaster. Worked fine during the 7 day trial, but died on me only a few days after I had paid for the darned thing.  The interface also sucked royally. And then last night, i stumbled upon Jive Talk by Bee Jive.  Even though I could try it free for 30 days (60 days actually since I’ve also got a blackberry from Ufone now, which I’m still testing), I have decided not to wait, and paid them the $30.  I could have saved $10, but since I could end up using the Ufone blackberry more, and could need to transfer my key to the second device.Jive Talk has the slickest multi-connection and multi-protocol chat interface I’ve seen for a blackberry, and it works flawlessly.  I’m not just impressed, but relieved.  For whatever reason, all my business contacts still use AIM as the primary chat medium, and the link for downloading AIM to blackberry has been broken for the longest time.  With Jive Talk, I’m even more connected than ever before…. didn’t think it was possible, eh? ;-)

VBlog-004 Effects of what we see

21-April-2008 We don’t realize how every simple element in our environment influences the way we turn out. Especially media.

VBlog-003 National Insensitivity

18-April-2008. We stand on the street watching atrocities like they were some TV show. We don’t even bother to call emergency services. Why are we so insensitive? Is media responsible?

VBlog-002 Need for power

18-April-2008. The nation has no food, education, or health services, while the politicians are fighting over bullet-proof vehicles, and not enough police security. I’ve finally understood why people fight for power in Pakistan.

VBlog-001 Political Violence

10-April-2008. Another sad milestone in Karachi’s history. In the fight for power, more innocent lives were lost. Many lives were scarred forever. And for what?

Music of life

There are some songs that you can’t help feeling with. Youssou N’Dour has done quite a few such songs, but this particular piece always makes my soul move. I personally prefer the one with Neneh Cherry.

Talk google to me

I love Google Talk, and more and more want everyone who wants to talk to me, to use this exclusively.  The needless weight of Yahoo, MSN, and AOL messengers is too much; and I’m yet to gain any real appreciation for Skype.

My favorite chat program just got even better.  Whether you’re already using Google Talk or not, I suggest you go straight to the Google Talks Labs Edition.

Ankahi

The launch show of Ankahi went even better than I had expected, alhamdulillah.  Of course Sania Saeed’s presence helped.  Professor Sahar Ansari’s kindness and understanding of the subject brought a lot of clarity to the discussion.  I was surprised and very pleased with Sania’s command over fine Urdu.  I feel privileged to have such accomplished guests on our launch show.

Needless to say, I missed my partners in crime from Loose Ends.  Umar is visiting Pakistan right now, and it makes it even worse for me not to have launched Ankahi with him.  It was his friendship and supported that started this whole movement.  I also missed Tania and Reema a lot.  Their presence brought the feeling of reality to Loose Ends.

I’m glad that God has given me this opportunity to go back to doing such topics on TV.  May Allah guide me and help me make a difference.
